Lesson Planning
Build lessons that have a clear goal, take students from where they are to where they need to be, and let you check whether they got there.
When to Use
- "Plan a lesson on [topic] for [grade / level]"

What to Give Me
- Subject and level: K–12 grade, university, adult learner, professional training

- Duration: minutes per lesson, sessions per unit
- Context: in-person, online, hybrid; class size; available materials
- Prior knowledge: what they already know
- Constraints: standards alignment, exam preparation, accessibility needs

Design Principles
- Backwards design — start from the assessment, then plan instruction that gets students there
- One main objective per lesson — multiple objectives usually means it's actually a unit
- Active over passive — students should be doing more than you are
- Check for understanding before moving on — formative assessment is non-negotiable
- Plan for differentiation — assume the class is heterogeneous
