Executive Brief
Produce a structured 1-page summary of a long document for
executive review.
Required inputs
Ask the user to provide the document (paste, file, or link).
Also ask:
- Context: Why is the executive reading this? (decision,
awareness, preparation for a meeting)
- Time constraint: How much time do they have? (2 min
skim vs. 10 min review)
Brief structure
Bottom line
One sentence: what does this document mean for the executive?
What decision or action does it require?
Key findings
3-5 bullet points. Each bullet is one fact or conclusion from
the document, stated in plain language.
Risks and concerns
2-3 items the executive should be aware of. Include anything
that could become a question in a meeting.
Recommended action
What should the executive do? Approve, discuss, defer, request
more information? Be specific.
Questions to anticipate
2-3 questions that board members, partners, or direct reports
are likely to ask about this document.
Formatting
- Keep the entire brief under 400 words.
- Use bold for key terms and numbers.
- No jargon that the executive wouldn't use themselves.
