Los 3 archetypes (govclab)
1. In-house Studio
Ejemplos: BCG Digital Ventures, Atomic (founded by Bill Gross), Rocket Internet.
- Team stability (GPs know each other)
Cons:
- Hiring caro (buscar founders externos pagos)
- Scale limited por GP bandwidth
- Group-think risk (todos piensan igual)
2. External Partnership
Ejemplos: Founders Factory, betaworks, Highbeam.
Pros:
- Entrepreneurs bring own ideas + drive
- Scale via partnership velocity
- Diverse thought (no group-think)
- Studio stake via partnership terms
Cons:
- Less control sobre thesis alignment
- Partnership terms disputes
- IP questions más complejos
- Entrepreneur retention risk
3. Hybrid
Definición: mezcla — el studio hace both. Algunas ventures nacen in-house, otras
vienen de external partnerships.
Ejemplos: Human Ventures, Prehype, Expa.
Pros:
- Diversify deal flow
- Learn from both models
- Flexible strategy
Cons:
- Más complejo operacionalmente
- Requiere both skill sets
- Thesis puede diluirse

- [Hybrid]: Both setups; más complexity
Hiring impact:

- [External]: Need deal flow + evaluation pipeline
Thesis impact:

- [External]: Thesis loose but clear criteria
## Next steps
1. [Specific actions per archetype]
Principios clave
- Archetype NO es permanente: most studios evolve from one to another over time
- Hybrid mid-stage is natural: most successful studios end up hybrid after 2-3 years
- In-house requires capital intensive: salaries + benefits + runway
- External requires network + reputation: without those, entrepreneurs don't apply
Integración con otras skills
studio-thesis: archetype informa thesis structure
studio-focus: in-house can be tighter focus; external más flexible
